NYC to Maine

We are driving to Maine from the Bronx and I%26#39;m a little confused on the directions. Online directions say to take 95 to 91 to 84 to 90 to 495........it doesn%26#39;t make sense!

Can%26#39;t I just take 95 straight up?

NYC to Maine

Sure, you can take it. But, it%26#39;ll take you twice as long!

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.............so I%26#39;m guessing that Mapquest, etc. is correct then?

Hi bronx girl. If you take a look at a map, you%26#39;ll see that taking 95 all the way is actually longer, mileage-wise, than 95/91/84/90/495. In addition, if you take 95 all the way, you will usually have a ton more traffic congestion and a lot more entrances and exits. It%26#39;s just amazing how many exits and entrances there are in CT if you take 95 the whole way. And for each one you have a halfway decent possibility of somebody causing an accident while merging or exiting that can completely screw up traffic. 95 traffic around Providence and Boston can be brutal, too. 495 can be really heavy, but it%26#39;s not completely backed up nearly as often as 95 is.

Personally, I%26#39;m not wild about the 91/84 part of the online recommendation because it takes you right through Hartford. You can get really bogged down in traffic in Hartford, depending on time of day. I like to take 95 to 395 (in the middle of CT) to 90 to 495. Maybe I%26#39;ve just been lucky, but every time I%26#39;ve driven it 395 has been pretty lightly travelled. For some, it%26#39;s also worth mentioning that the Mohegan Sun casino is immediately off 395.
