Coming Oct from GA, when Columbus Day?/Advice on biking, etc?

i got caught in this last holiday last time up there and since we don%26#39;t do that holiday down South, was wondering if y%26#39;all could tell me when. Seems it can be harder to get campsites.

We basically have a window of 2nd or 3rd week of Sept or 1st or 2nd week of November. Would prefer to camp.

After reading the site, we are leaning toward Acadia for a few days then perhaps Baxter SP. I also have been thinking about carrying my wife to West Quoddy Head (I went before).

We will arrive Saturday evening/night to probable reservation at Blackwoods Camp at Acadia. at least Sun-Wed on Acadia, maybe leave Wed evening or Thurs for Thurs/Fri full days and nights elsewhere in Maine and then have to begin serious driving home Saturday next.

We will be bringing our bicycles and love to do rail trails. Doing the carriage trails in Acadia. We also love to drive and don%26#39;t mind driving some distances, do shorter hikes (at most 3-5 miles just to save time). It would be nice to see three or four really interesting areas, maybe a traditional Maine small town, an expeditiion into the backwoods.

Please feel free to respond on the board or directly. And don%26#39;t hesitate to ask me about Georgia and the Southeast.

Thanks

Ooops. That is first or second week of Oct.

Dates are Leave Sept 14-return Sept 21 or Leave Sept 28-return Oct 6 or Leave Oct 5-retrun Oct 13.

Any advice will be savored like a nice maple syrup on a piping hot pancake.

Either set of dates the crowds should be less then the real busy summer season (ending Labor Day) although the foliage season will be underway so that keeps some people coming. Columbus day weekend is the busiest for leaf peepers, the middle of September is not all that busy. If I read correctly that you want to ';camp'; then I would probalby do the earlier set of dates as even then it will be getting cooler around her, especially at night. I dont think I would ever be able to get my wife to camp out in October and I dont know that I would care to especially up north around Baxter, at night it will be getting quite cold and I think only for the real hardy campers. There could quite likely be a frost that time of year.

I certainly wouldn%26#39;t rule out Baxter but you may want to rethink the camping idea and instead book a cabin.

thanks. Last time I was up in Oct around 2000 (I think) I camped in the low 30s at night. I think that will work, lower than that might be too much.
