First Visit to Maine

We are a young couple trying to figure out which state to relax in and sight see that is within reasonable driving distance from Detroit. We are considering Maine but we are not sure where to stay, weather conditions and what to do? Recommendations would be greatly appreciated! Thank you :)

First Visit to Maine

If reasonable distance is about 1,000 miles each way, come on over.

Late September, early October is the best time period in my opinion. I would guess that since you are from the midwest, you would like to see the ocean. For that, head to the Acadia National Park area. Bar Harbor is the hub so look through that section here on TripAdvisor.

Do you have more specifics on when you would be traveling, or on particuler interests?

First Visit to Maine

We are also planning to come up to Maine this fall. I have been to Acadia once, but first visit for my wife.

We are probably staying at Acadia 4 or so days. Wonder if anyone can recommend good Bicycle Rail Trail (or other east rides) in other parts of the state. We will be doing the carriage trails a couple of days.

I had though of a day trip up to West Quoddy Head for her one of the Acadia days.

We just have not decided on what to do when leaving Acadia and beginning to head back home to mid-GA. We figure a long drive Sat, short Drive Sun. So the prior Thurs/Fri we can be anywhere around NH,VERT/PN/or Maine, preferably if something to north work our way back down toward South.

Would love to get a good feel for the Maine pine woods. But up for unusual ideas also.
