We are planning trip to ANP and Bar Harbor Aug 18-25th.
Looking at various apt., cottage rentals. Is this a good idea
for 1st time in BH? Or should we stick to hotel/motel type
accommodations? We are driving from NYC area.
Would appreciate any tips.
Thanks, Terry and Jimmy
First time to Bar Harbor
Hi,
Well cottages are alot cheaper than hotels. We stayed in a nice cottage one year. But there was no AC in the cottage and no pool. There are lots of hotels in Bar Harbor, but some are quite expensive, the closer to downtown anyway. It doesnt really matter where you stay because you will be out sightseeing most of the day anyway. Too beautiful there to be cooped up in a hotel! You will love it there. We are going at the end of August ourselves. The 25th of August. Good Luck!
First time to Bar Harbor
Cottages generally are cheaper. They also are located outside of the village, so that you will need transportation---your own or the Island Explorer shuttle---to get to most restaurants, the shops, and the park.
The village of Bar Harbor has a broad range of hotels, motels, and B%26amp;Bs--all within walking distance of the viallage center. You might want to check at
%26gt;http://www.acadiamagic.com%26gt;
to see what is available.
The Bar Harbor Bed and Breakfast Association has a website:
%26lt;http://www.sleepbarharbor.com%26gt;
that provides descriptions, rates, and availability of most of the village B%26amp;Bs.
Most of the park is served by the Island Explorer free shuttle: the route maps and schedules are at:
%26lt;http://www.exploreacadia.com%26gt;
The shuttle does have some routes that serve campgrounds and some island motels and cottages.
IF you have children in your group, you may want to consider getting a cottage at a campground, smugglers cove, hadley%26#39;s, bass harbor cmpgd all have them.
